CMHC – Indigenous Youth Housing Internship Program 2023-2024

CMHC is now receiving applications for the 2023-24 Housing Internship for Indigenous Youth (HIIY) program. The intake period to receive applications will run from February 22 to April 22, 2023.

The goal of the HIIY program is to assist Indigenous youth between the ages of 15-30 in pursuing long-term employment in the housing sector. The program offers financial support to sponsors who provide housing-related internships that combine on the job training, skills development and practical work experience. Our HIIY Fact Sheet, attached here, provides a complete description of the program and its requirements.

As you know, you can now submit your application through the CMHC Client Portal . In order to assist you in the process of completing and submitting a HIIY application, please review our guide: Creating a HIIY Application in the Portal

We will also be hosting an informational webinar the week of March 27th for a demonstration of the client portal. If you are interested, please register – You will receive another email with further information closer to the webinar date.

If you plan to apply for more than one intern, please note that you will be required to either

  • Submit a separate application for each intern; or
  • Submit one application along with the Project Cost Table, which allows you to provide the required details for all additional interns. This Excel table is attached for your convenience.

Please note that while every effort is made to allocate funding to as many applicants as possible, given the limited funding available, a prioritization process may be undertaken, where priority will be given to applications based on the strength of the responses.

If you are currently receiving HIIY funding for 2022-23 (fiscal year ending March 31, 2023) please make sure to submit your final reporting documents (Outcomes Form and Final Payment Request Form) in order for your 2023-24 Application to be considered.

We recognize that internet connectivity or access to computers may be an issue for some of you. Please be assured that alternate options for application submissions exist and we will work to accommodate your specific needs and expectations.   As always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to assist you.
