International Trade Investment Priorities for Indigenous Businesses in Alberta

Information Session/Meeting on January 9th, 2023

Information Session for First Nations/ Tribal Councils / Métis Settlements plus leadership and Indigenous businesses from Treaty 6 in Alberta.

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) (Alberta/NWT Regional Office) is looking to meet with Indigenous partners in Edmonton on January 9, 2023. The meeting is to build new and expand existing relationships between the TCS Alberta / NWT Regional Office, GAC Headquarters, and Indigenous partners in Alberta. Location TBD based on level of interest and space requirements.

GAC and the TCS will take the opportunity to engage partners in attendance to get a better understanding of:

• International trade and investment priorities (markets and sectors) of Indigenous entities in Alberta.

• The opportunities and interests for Indigenous businesses in the United States.

• The potential areas in Indigenous businesses and communities in Alberta for attractive foreign investment.

• What the TCS does well when working with Indigenous communities and businesses to export abroad and what or how the TCS could do better.

• The supports that be needed to address gaps that currently exist in getting Indigenous businesses to the point of being in a position to export.
